This school year, make Richmond your classroom.  RVA has a wide array of cultural and historic experiences to enhance your current curriculum. From in-person experiences such as the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, American Civil War Museum, the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia and The Valentine, learn about the fascinating history of Virginia and America. Walk the city's historic trails, like the Richmond Liberty Trail or go on a fun-filled scavenger hunt with Urban Adventure Quest. Or explore the city's breathtaking murals with Would I Lie to You Mural Walks or the Richmond Mural Tours. The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and the Science Museum of Virginia offer in person and online adventures including virtual field trips for all ages.

American Civil War Museum

This multi-site museum includes the Tredegar Ironworks, located in downtown Richmond along the James River. The award-winning 30,000 sq. ft. Museum surrounds the industrial ruins of Tredegar Ironworks  and features two galleries for exhibits (one permanent, one rotating) and more than 500 artifacts on display. The new HomefrontEd section of their website offers book readings, daily activities and educator resources.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden offers year-round beauty on a historic property with more than 50 acres of spectacular gardens, dining, and shopping. The Garden’s mission is education and we can’t wait to teach you something new, either in person or through online learning.  For in-person learning, Timed tickets allow children to explore native plants, carnivorous plants, entire ecosystems and exotic plants from other climates (in the Conservatory). While some high-touch area in the Children’s Garden are currently closed, families can go for a forest adventure exploring the new Fairy Forest along the Tree Trail behind the Children’s Garden. Educational KidQuests are free scavenger hunts and can be printed off our website for use at the Garden or even in your own backyard.  If staying at home is more your style, you won’t want to miss our educational programming featuring weekly story time with Tarneshia on Facebook, Tuesday’s Children’s Garden Check-in, and virtual field trips for all ages, based on Virginia’s Science SOLs.

Explore Richmond’s past along the Liberty Trail, a 6.2 mile walking route connecting many of downtown’s historic sites, attractions and neighborhoods as well as 15 national historic landmarks. This self-guided experience is a continuous loop and intersects with other trails.
