48 Hours in San Antonio Riverwalk Itinerary

Day One

Morning

Start your morning with breakfast on the River Walk at Four Brothers restaurant and enjoy a combination of Southern and South Texas cuisine. Choose from savory dishes like Huevos Rancheros and Smoked Brisket Benedict or opt for something a little sweeter like Vanilla Cream French Toast or a Sticky Bourbon & Pecan Cinnamon Bun.

After you’ve finished breakfast, choose from several sightseeing options, all walkable from the Omni La Mansion del Rio. Explore The Alamo, the most visited historic landmark in all of Texas. Then travel upriver to visit The San Antonio Museum of Art, the riverfront building that houses this museum was formerly a brewery, giving it a unique aesthetic in which to view European, Asian, Oceanic, Latin American, and American ancient and contemporary art.

Afternoon

Continue your tour of local museums with a trip to the McNay Art Museum, the first modern art museum in Texas. Housed in a Spanish Colonial Revival abode, the museum’s collection consists of 20,000 pieces of art, including paintings, sculptures, and art glass from the 19th century on.

When lunchtime rolls around, stop by the Pearl Brewery for lunch. Although it's not actually the site of a brewery today, it is a culinary and cultural destination along the river and is the perfect spot to enjoy lunch. Pay a visit to Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery, which houses a custom manufactured brewery that brings brewing back to the Pearl offering 15 different beers on tap.

Evening

In the evening, head across the river to Ostra and indulge in fresh seafood and riverfront views. Don’t miss a chance to try the acclaimed Oyster Bar, which includes a variety of the freshest oysters, clams, crab, shrimp, and ceviche. Ostra offers a full wine list and specialty tequilas. With more than 70 labels, Ostra houses the largest selection of tequilas and Mezcals in downtown San Antonio.

Day Two

Morning

If it’s a luxurious breakfast you seek, the Guenther House can’t be beat. A blend of art nouveau and Victorian, the house has been operating as a restaurant and museum since 1988. The solid copper light fixtures, ceramic tile flooring and stained-glass panels featuring an ivy design make for a quaint setting in which to dine on buttermilk biscuits, sweet cream waffles, country sausage or breakfast tacos.

While in the city’s King William District, explore this historic part of town where homes from the 19th-century have been repurposed and converted into shops, museums, and art galleries. These fashionable structures are just as enchanting to walk past as they are to enter. Two to note are Villa Finale and the Edward Steves Homestead, both of which you can tour.

For a more casual spot, hop over to La Panaderìa Bakery and Café for delicious handmade bread and pan dulce inspired by Mexico’s Golden Era. Panderìa’s unique approach to breadmaking includes a 48-hour fermentation process that results in artisan baked goods unlike any other.

Afternoon

You can’t miss touring the San Antonio Missions. This UNESCO site houses four missions—Concepción, San José, San Juan and Espada—each provide the perfect glimpse into the city’s history. The ancient structures are beautifully constructed and full of information.

If a relaxing afternoon is what you’re after, opt to head back to the hotel. Four Brothers offers a combination of Southern and South Texas cuisine with Latin and French influences such as a basil crusted Branzino served over pecan risotto or Filet Mignon served with purple potatoes, spinach purée, and café de Paris butter. Make sure to start your meal with the delicious Bexar Cornbread and BBQ Glazed Brussel Sprouts before treating yourself to one of their delicious entrees and cocktails.

Evening

Make your way to the Historic Market Square and experience a three-block outdoor plaza lined with shops and restaurants. Market Square is the largest Mexican market in the United States. The "El Mercado" section has 32 specialty shops, and the "Farmer's Market Plaza" section has 80.
