The fall of Saigon in 1975 marked the end of the Vietnam War, yet many Virginians continued to feel a disconnect from this controversial chapter in American history. Public reluctance to engage with veterans and the secrecy surrounding government policies left a void in understanding, leading to an ongoing struggle to reconcile differing perspectives on the war. On the 50th anniversary of Saigon's fall, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture aims to bridge this gap by showcasing oral histories and inviting visitors to explore the lasting effects of the conflict on Virginia's politics, culture, and communities.
