St. Patrick's Day, originally a religious feast day established in 1631 to honor Ireland’s patron saint, became a break from Lent's restrictions. It wasn’t until 1904 that it became an official public holiday in Ireland. The modern-day celebrations, including parades, were shaped by Irish immigrants in America, starting with the first NYC parade in 1762. The color green became associated with the day after the 1798 Irish Rebellion, replacing blue, which had been linked to St. Patrick before then. No matter how you celebrate, enjoy the day at The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa!

The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa has been around for more than two centuries. We opened our doors 10 years before the Declaration of Independence was signed and have seen many presidents, royalty and families come through our doors. We're pretty proud of our history and love to share it with our visitors. So when you stay, be sure to sign up for the history tour.
